Just a few miles south of Tonasket, along State Frontage Road, lies Florasage Farm—a small but flourishing haven of flowers and herbs, all nurtured with care by Kimberly Johnson. Here, amidst the peaceful rural landscape, Johnson has built a thriving business rooted in her passion for locally and sustainably grown blooms.
On just about any given Saturday (during the season), you'll find Johnson tending to her vibrant collection of flowers, which she has lovingly cultivated from seed in her greenhouse.
Johnson's “Fresh Cut Flowers” cart, which opened in July 2024, has quickly become a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike.
From delicate arrangements featuring the soft, muted tones of zinnias, pink champagne celosia, yarrow, and sunflowers to bouquets that burst with the vibrant hues of the season, her creations are a reflection of the changing seasons of the Okanogan. As summer winds down, Johnson is already preparing for the next phase of her farm—pumpkin season.
"People like it," Johnson said. "It’s very humbling and overwhelming for sure," she added, acknowledging the support she's received from the community.
But Florasage Farm is more than just a place to purchase beautiful flowers. It's also the center of a heartfelt initiative Johnson calls "The Blessings Project."
This unique endeavor invites members of the greater Tonasket community to nominate a person (via social media) who is going through a difficult time. Johnson then delivers a bouquet to the chosen individual, a small gesture meant to brighten someone's day.
"I created the project to bless others, but have found that it blesses me more," Johnson said. While the response to the project has been slow, she believes it’s simply a matter of time before more people learn about her and the work she’s doing.
Johnson’s journey with Florasage Farm began with the sale of spring flowers on Facebook Marketplace. The overwhelmingly positive response encouraged her to expand her offerings and dream bigger for the future.
"My plan is to expand by growing more flowers," she explains. But her ambitions don’t stop there. Johnson is eager to offer educational opportunities to the public, sharing her knowledge of everything from sustainable farming to seed starting and flower arranging.
"I have lots of other ideas, too, for the future," she said.
Regarding the name of her business, Johnson shared that it was inspired by her daughter, Sage, a 2020 Tonasket High School graduate currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Psychology – Counseling at Northwest University in Kirkland.
As Florasage Farm continues to grow, it's clear that Johnson's passion for her craft, her community, and her family—her husband Rhett has been a steadfast supporter—is blooming as beautifully as the flowers she nurtures. Whether it's through a thoughtfully arranged bouquet or a pumpkin patch, Johnson's farm is a place where nature's beauty meets the warmth of human kindness.
